BIOGRAPHY
My name is Maria, and I am from Carbondale, IL. Growing up, the Shawnee National Forest was literally my backyard, so I have grown to love backpacking, biking, and all things outdoors. Nature played such a significant role in my young life that I have decided to dedicate my career to it. I am currently studying sustainable policy, and I hope to one day be a park ranger for one of the National Parks. I am also pursuing a minor in Spanish and a certificate in Environmental Writing. In additional to my schoolwork, I am a musician, a writer, and a cat-lover.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
My childhood best friend’s mother was a three-time breast cancer survivor. Although we are not in contact anymore, I do think about the hardships their family endured. Thus, I am riding for the children whose parents are trying to juggle managing their health and also being a good parent. I am very excited for this summer, and I thank everyone who is helping me achieve this arduous undertaking.
