BIOGRAPHY

Hello! My name is Marc, Marc Maybaum to those who I have not had the pleasure to meet yet. I am a senior at the University of Illinois studying Advertising, and somehow picked up a Chemistry minor along the way. In case you could not tell from this fact, I am interested in learning a wide range of topics. In addition to school, I enjoy playing baseball, making coffee, traveling, finding and listening to music, doing puzzles, writing, and cooking. Last year, I was lucky enough to study abroad in Adelaide, Australia. After thoroughly travelling the country, I realized how little I have seen and know about the country I grew up in. I am excited for the bike ride and my future in whatever it entails.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

I believe you don't have to know anyone affected by cancer to be affected by cancer. Cancer is one of the most frightening and disgusting realities of modern life. In a society where we work to know, understand and control everything around us, it is beyond frustrating to witness something in which we are so helpless. Already, too many lives have been lost and too many people have lost loved ones to this disease, and the sad truth is that it is not going away. Without our collective action, it is only a matter of time until someone each one of us knows and loves is affected by it. That is why this summer I am not riding for one person, but, rather, for the future of everyone I know and love.
