BIOGRAPHY

Hello! My name is Gedion Amesias, I am a senior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign studying Actuarial Science. Even though I have resided in the great city of Chicago and Evanston (a northern suburb of Chicago) for the past seven years with my amazing family, I was born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I consider myself to be an outgoing and adventurous person because I love things like nature, traveling, sightseeing and meeting new people. To date, the craziest thing I have done is skydiving, which was more of a mental challenge than anything else. Even though I have only been to three countries, I would like to visit and explore as many as I can. I hope to graduate from college in May of 2011 and start the next chapter of my life.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

Cancer is a horrible disease that has affected and continues to affect many people around the world. Even though a good amount of the people riding this summer seem to have stories of someone in their family or close friends being affected by cancer, I am fortunate enough not to have anybody in my family who has been affected by cancer. The reason I am doing this ride is because cancer is something that everybody needs to fight, be it by biking across America, raising money and awareness like Illini 4000, or the simple act of volunteering at a nearby hospital.
