Join the 2009 Illini 4000 Bike America Team!

Riding with our team is a life-changing experience. Not only will you make a difference in the fight against cancer as you help to raise $100,000 dollars for the American Cancer Society, but you will also have the opportunity to see America in a way that you have never seen it before. You will see every side of American life, from the largest of America’s cities to its most desolate areas. Along the way you will act as an advocate for cancer awareness as you interact with the members of the communities we pass through.

As a perspective Illini 4000 rider, you should be aware that a project of this size requires an equally large commitment. The ride will take place over the majority of the summer of 2008, and it is expected that riders be able to participate for the entire length of the program. Riders will also be expected to help with the planning of the ride as well as participate in training throughout the academic year.

In addition to the time commitment, riders will also be expected to pay a $550 dollar program fee, in addition to raising $2,500 through personal pledges, fundraisers, and support from local businesses. The purpose of this program fee is to assure the success of the ride, and will help the organization to cover basic expenses including team jerseys, airfare, and food.

Furthermore, as a representative of the Illini 4000 for Cancer, you will be expected to maintain the highest standards of behavior. Our purpose is to serve the cancer community and, as a charitable organization, we must protect our integrity, credibility, and accountability. Attached to the application you will find our behavior policy and you must agree to it when submitting your application.

Is it worth it? We know that as students it is difficult to set aside an entire summer, and that helping to raise $100,000 dollars for cancer research can be kind of intimidating. But don’t be discouraged! The Illini 4000 is a once in a lifetime experience, and an unforgettable way to spend a summer.
